Grammarist.

¨Oh no, not grammar!¨ I hear your cry. Fear not, because this particular grammar-based website (stay with me) holds a wealth of information and explanations on a wide range of words and phrases from the English language, from similar sounding words to those which look the same but have different meanings.

There is of course a section each on colloquialisms and idioms, so those of you who watch English-language TV shows can look up any phrases you´ve heard where you´re unsure of the meaning. If you have a thing for English comedy then those shows will be full to the brim with curious similes and peculiar expressions, so it´s well worth finding out what they mean and when to use them.

An example: how many of you have itchy feet? I know I do...

One slight downside of the site is that there is currently no search function, but there is an index. However if you google your chosen word or phrase along with the word Grammarist, it should bring it up. I believe it also leans slightly more towards American English sayings, but hey, we´re all friends here.

I do believe it´s an interesting website for people with a genuine interest in the English language, whether you´re a teacher or student, native or non-native speaker, and can certainly help answer any doubts or questions you may have over a specific area, so it´s well worth checking out.

Who knows, you may even find yourselves (whisper it) finding grammar fun...
